The Sands of Time

Watch the sands of time fall through the hour glass;
Do you realize that with one minute grain a life can pass?
This is what happened, it seems like yesterday
One tiny grain slipped through and Elvis was gone...away.

Watch as it trickles down,
Very silently, stealthily, making no sound;
Yet one little grain made a whole world weep
For when it fell, he went to sleep.

Down, down, they keep coming down,
Just as they did that morn when no one was around.
The sands of time were falling the day he was born
Even then one fell to make his parents mourn;
For as quickly as Jesse came, just as quickly was he gone,
The sand had ruled, Elvis would be raised in a brotherless home.

I watch the tiny specks, they seem to fall so fast,
I wonder are they trying to remind me that this too shall pass?
It has, but only the instant and the act,
For the pain and anguish are still intact.
This the sands of time will eventually erase,
But only when with him we are again face to face.

So run on sands of time, run as fast as you can,
For the grain with his name can not pass through again.
Row sands of time, flow as fast as you dare,
For you have already taken the rarest of the rare.

Oh, sands of time you bare the mind and the soul,
And always leave us wondering,
what is your purpose, what is your goal?
