HE DIDN’T HAVE TO
He didn’t have to touch you—for you to be
touched by him.
He didn’t have to sing—for you to hear his
song.
He didn’t have to be there—for you to feel his
presence.
He didn’t have to look at you—for you to feel
his gaze.
He didn’t have to be near—for you to feel his
warmth.
He didn’t have to demand—you were honored to
be there.
He didn’t have to kiss you—for you to feel
kissed.
He didn’t have to hold you—for you to feel his
strength.
He didn’t have to say “I love you”—you just
knew he did.
He didn’t have to dress in sequins and
jewels—for he himself shone.
He didn’t have to speak—for us to understand.
He didn’t have to preach—for his faith was
stronger than words.
He didn’t have to laugh—for you to hear his
joy.
He didn’t have to cry—for you to see his
tears.
He didn’t have to show his feelings—for you to
know how he felt.
It was because of all these things that though
he is gone—
He will never leave us.
