TWENTY NINE
YEARS
It has been twenty nine years and we are still
deep in sorrow;
It is just as strong today as yesterday, and
will be tomorrow.
We do not question the fact that God knew what
was right,
But, Lord, we miss him so, every day and every
night.
We miss his laughter, his smile, his beautiful
face,
And, whatever we do, our lives with loneliness
and sorrow are interlaced.
We miss his concerts and waiting for a new
album to be released,
And we know all these feelings, we have will
never cease.
I look at his picture taken at his concert
“Aloha from Hawaii”
And know that no one can ever present himself
so handsomely.
He was, and is, the paragon of all the ideals
we hold so dear,
And, though he is gone, he will always be very
near.
The magnetic force he had to draw people to
him
Is as strong today as it was then.
He is not dead as Webster defines the word,
For his presence can still be felt throughout
the world.
When we look at the night sky filled with
twinkling stars,
It reminds us of his beautiful suits adorned
with the ever-present scarves.
We see the rainbow bending from one side of
the earth to the other
And remember how colorful he was and how he
would always bend to help a brother.
We see the rain falling softly from the sky
And think of the tears that continue to spill
from our eyes.
We look at Graceland standing so straight and
strong
And are reminded that our feelings for him
were never wrong.
We bristle with anger at any unkind remark,
Because when he came into our dull lives he
brought a spark
That will continue to sine and glow,
Until the time the deserts are covered with
snow
And rain falls up instead of down
And the full moon is no longer round
And the laughter of a child brings a frown
And the circus no longer needs a clown
And the sun rises in the west and sets in the
east
And the animals of the jungle are no longer
beasts,
And ice cream is no longer a treat for a child
And there are no seasons, just weather that is
mild.
Elvis, we loved you then, we love you now,
And for you in prayer our heads will bow.
And be assured our love will continue to grow,
For another like you, this world will never
know.
