From “That’s All Right Mama,” in Memphis town,

Through hundreds of hits, to his last “Way Down,”

He remembered from whence he came, Tupelo,

For it was there he really began to grow.

As Mrs. Grimes has said so many times,

He was a good boy and easily made to mind.

He attended the Assembly of God, two blocks from his home;

From the things he learned there he would never roam.

“Yes, Ma’am” and “No Ma’am” he was taught as a tot,

Along with the Songs of Solomon and the Life of Lot,

The book of Psalms, David, Abraham, and the Proverbs,

And through his life these were more than just words.

When he felt weak and thought he had not done his part,

He made a plea to the great Evangelist, Rex Humbart,

Who came, knelt with him, and prayed----

Until Elvis no longer needed him, he stayed.

He said while there he saw Elvis cry,

And this man would have no reason to lie.

Elvis was one of God’s own sheep,

Otherwise he would have had no reason to weep.

His salvation, and that of his followers, was in his thoughts,

For he knew this was something that could not be bought;

He not have worried, for another man of God was sure

That he would see him on the distant shore.

Billy Graham has said when he walks Heaven’s street

He is very certain the first person he will meet

Will be Elvis dressed in his suit of white,

His crown replaced by a halo shining bright.

They will embrace each other as men often do,

And never again will they know the feeling of being blue,

Nor the loneliness of being in a crowd of many___

At long last they will be in the Land of Plenty---

No more one-night stands, eating foods bad for his health,

For now he is where there is no need for wealth.
